I live in a rented condo with a small dining area opening onto the kitchen. Not a big canvas to work with, but a blank one, with two beige walls and a not-so-lovely hanging chandelier. Here is the before picture:
I love the clean, simple designs of mid-century furniture, and after months of searching found an amazing vintage teak credenza and Danish rosewood dining chairs. I recovered the chair seats and paired them with a fantastic knock-off Saarinen tulip table that I got at a fantastic knock-off price.
Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything about the linoleum floors, but the walls I could get creative with. I wallpapered one wall behind the credenza in strippable wallpaper that I can remove easily when I outta here. I changed out the chandelier for an updated drum shade, and added art through a vintage poster and a piece of my own design (details here).
Much better than the boring little square area I started with, and it adds some much-needed personality to my little condo!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so fresh and clean. Playing with mid century furniture is not easy. Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteLove that teak sideboard Kelly.
ReplyDeleteAnd the table was a great find. I agree with Linda....tough look to pull off while making it look modern...not just mid-century. But you did it really, really well :)
Looks lovely! The wallpaper is so subtle, but pretty and I love the artwork. Fabulous job.

ReplyDeleteYour room looks so pretty. I have never heard of strippable wallpaper, I am going to have to look into that. I too love mid-century pieces with the clean lines. Love your chairs and tulip table, what a fun combo!
