the art of storing magazines

As I get deeper into the One Room Challenge, in which I am refreshing my office/reading room, I am thinking about my very large magazine collection and wondering how to store and display them all. The solution must be something cheap and/or homemade. So I've been looking around and have found some ideas.

I have a weakness for magazines and books as decoration within my home, so they will always play a big part of many of my rooms. I love these DIY storage ideas. Which do you think I should try?

  1. I like the one where the spines are hidden in the beautiful storage containers. I started ripping out the pages I wanted from magazines and put them in a binder. I do wonder, many years later, if there were other images in those magazines that I would like now?

  2. Lovely ideas all. I am lucky to have a spare room with floor to ceiling bookshelves where I have them all stacked, for easy access. They are not particularly "pretty" but they are tidy and out of the way. I saw someone post lovely clear (Plexiglas perhaps) storage containers (like the cardboard ones in the 5th photo). I thought the clear were such a great idea so you can read the spines!!

  4. I NEED that crate as well! I am a "piler" ... I drive my family crazy ... I do tear out pages, but then I worry that there is something else in there I might need at another time. But, how will I know????? I am trying to clear out ... but it is not easy for this shelter magazine lover!!! Can't wait to see how you organize your space. If i put things too much "away" I can't seem to find anything!!

    1. I know, I'm a total magazine hoarder. I got back and look at them a few years later and find new things I like. After 3-4 years though, I finally toss. I'm thinking of going with a combo of the crate storage and stacking on shelves like pic #3.

      Thanks for the comments all!

  5. So many good options. I love the folders covered with pretty paper...but would that make it harder to find what you're looking for? I guess some sort of master organizational plan is necessary if you have a lot of magazines.
