find it friday: vintage wallpaper

As I was reading through the special edition of Domino magazine recently I came across this kid's room that was cleverly and sustainably designed.

The floor tiles are recycled, the paint is no-VOC and the fabrics are organic. But what I really fell in love with was the giraffe cutout from vintage wallpaper. Great idea to use old leftover wallpaper with the cool designs from days gone by!

I found a source for the silhouettes, but you could also simply cut your own from vintage paper. Here are some great shops to find it in.

countertop decisions: trendy and sustainable

I came across a great article recently on Fresh Home about the 10 hottest kitchen countertops.

Interestingly, many match up with those that are sustainable, eco-friendly versions as well.  I blogged last year about green options for countertops. Go take a look and then compare them against the trends. I'm betting you can find one you love that fits both categories!

quick refresh: flower pot fix

I love the inexpensive Fall flowers you can get at the grocery store. I don't however, like the ugly plastic pots they come in. A quick and cheap fix is simply to wrap it in burlap and tie it with jute rope. Fits right into a natural look and dramatically refreshes a table or doorway.

Hope you are enjoying Fall as much as I am!

room of the week: light and bright workspace

I'm drooling over this light, bright and calming room, which I am pinning as a favourite workspace to mimic one day. Not only is it black and white (which I am just slightly obsessed with) but it is simple and uncluttered, uses natural materials and has a ton of sunshine coming through. Perfection.

quick refresh: mid mod footstool

If you visit much you know I love vintage seeking, especially for mid-century modern pieces. A while back I found a footstool that had lots of potential. A little paint on the legs, and new fabric stapled onto the bottom and I now have a refreshed mid mod stool. Easy peesy, right?

black and white day 19

I'm loving this renovated kitchen and living room in sleek black and white by Mango Design Co. The space is modern and clean-lined, but still exudes warmth with the wood floors and colourful accessories like books.

Black, white, natural materials and books. Yup. My kind of home.
