No need to buy new in order to gain more living space - convert your garage into extra liveable square footage in your home. It's a sustainable and more affordable way to live large in an existing space. Check out these great inspirations.

winter living room designs

Yes, I'm a freak. I love winter. I love skiing and snowshoeing and the crisp fresh feeling outside. And I also love snuggling up with a blanket beside a fireplace and watching movies on a cold winter evening.

So I sometimes like to change up the living room a bit to "winterize" it. There are some very different and appealing options to go with.

The modern minimalist Swedish design.

Or something in between.

I like them all, though tend toward the warm and cozy for our long Canadian winters. What about you?

a cozy and contemporary ski lodge

This Colorado ski home renovation featured in Architectural Digest made me dig out my skis and dream about  heading to the mountains! I will be there soon, but probably not in a place as gorgeous as this.

This lodge is such a perfect example of how to create a contemporary and minimal home while still maintaining a rustic, country, cozy feel. The spectacular views are highlighted with massive windows, and the log construction is front and centre, yet it doesn't feel like you are in country cabin. The kitchen is black and sleek, and the dining room and bathroom are proof that natural materials can definitely be used in a modern design.

Don't you wish you could be here for the weekend?

easy holiday mantel ideas

Yippee! December is here and it's time to think about Christmas mantle decorating. Here are some great inspirations for whatever style you are going for. Notice how most incorporate things that cost very little, or even nothing at all. Dig out dishes, candles, mirrors and ornaments that you already have in the house. Go outdoors and bring in greenery and branches or even driftwood and scrap wood. And get crafty with paper, glue and scissors. Have fun!
